Scope of the retrofit

The hotel is located in Shitan Town, Zengcheng District, Guangzhou. During a full renovation the guest room control system was upgraded across 9 floors (6F-14F) and 121 guest rooms, spanning nine room types including superior king, superior twin, executive king, business suites, family rooms, mahjong rooms and round-bed rooms.

Retrofitting control in an existing hotel differs fundamentally from a new build: old panels must come out, existing cabling stays, and finished interiors cannot be opened up. That tests both product adaptability and on-site execution.

The Challenges

Out with the old, many floors and room types, a tight window, one-shot delivery

Out with the old, without breaking the new - existing panels had to be removed and replaced beneath finished ceilings and walls, demanding careful protection of completed finishes.
Many floors, many room types - 121 rooms across 9 floors and 9 room types, each with different control points and scene logic, requiring per-type schedules and consistent commissioning.
A tight retrofit window - works had to fit the wider renovation programme while minimising rooms taken out of service.
One-shot delivery - retrofit projects rarely allow repeated rework; the system must be operational from handover.

One per room, providing room-level mesh networking and cloud connectivity; no new control cabling is added during the retrofit.

AC thermostat and curtain motor

Local temperature and fan-speed control, plus a Bluetooth Mesh curtain motor (1.2 N, driving centre-opening curtains up to 7 m) on a quiet track.

Scene panels, key-card switch and door plate

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 6-button panels covering corridor, bathroom, mirror, exhaust fan, bedside reading and LED strips, with Sleep / Soft / Bright / Leisure scenes, plus a key-card power switch and a 3-in-1 door plate.

Voice control and cloud platform

An in-room Xiaodu smart speaker for voice control of AC, curtains and lighting, with devices connected to the Hotekey cloud platform for remote maintenance.
